Lionel Messi has gone from being the first name on Barcelona's team sheet to the last for tonight's Champions League showdown against PSG.

The Catalans are sweating over the fitness of their star man ahead of the quarter-final second leg in the Nou Camp.

The World Player of the Year picked up a hamstring strain in Paris last week, when he scored in the 2-2 first-leg draw.

But Barca proved they could survive without him by thrashing Real Mallorca 5-0 in La Liga on Saturday.

And last night all the signs were pointing to the Argentine winning his fitness battle.

He trained with his team-mates yesterday along with fellow forward Pedro and defender Adriano, who are also coming back from injury.

However, assistant coach Jordi Roura said a final decision would be made today.

He said: "The feelings are good but ultimately we'll have to wait and see how he feels and what the doctors say."

"If he plays it will be because he is in the right shape.

"The hours before the match will be very important to assess how things are going.

"Obviously if the best player in the world is not available then it's a handicap for us.

"But we have a lot of other players who can play at a high level and we will do our best to get the right result."

Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic feels David Beckham has taken on an important leadership role at the PSG– even at 37.

Having left the LA Galaxy, Beckham signed a five-month contract with PSG in January and has since made eight appearances for the Qatari-owned outfit, including a start in the tie against Barcelona last week.

The Swedish striker said: "I think he has been very important for us.

"We are changing from a normal club to a top club, and Beckham gives you some kind of confidence.

"He has the responsibility, on the pitch and off the pitch, to lead the way which is very important.

"He has a quality, a big quality; he has a touch that I haven't seen many players have. And he is very elegant when he plays."

Beckham and Ibrahimovic are the two most high-profile among a number of notable signings PSG have made over the past couple of years following their Qatari takeover.

And Ibrahimovic, a former Barcelona player who joined the Ligue 1 leaders from AC Milan last summer, admits he is glad the ex-England captain is now helping share the spotlight.

"I think it's good for me that Beckham came so he gets more attention than me, so they leave me a little bit alone."
