Barcelona's Lionel Messi became the Champions League's all-time top scorer with a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Apoel Nicosia in Group F.
The 27-year-old Barca and Argentina captain now has a record 74 goals in Europe's elite club competition.
Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the 27th minute with his first goal since moving to Barca in the summer.
Messi netted after 38 minutes to pass the 71-goal tally set by former Real Madrid and Schalke striker Raul. He raised the bar again with two goals in the second half.
It is the latest milestone in Messi's stellar career after he broke the six decades-old La Liga record with a hat-trick in Barca's 5-1 victory over Sevilla on Saturday.
He has now scored 253 goals in 289 league games for the Catalan club he joined as a 13-year-old.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 70 Champions League goals and has a chance to surpass his rival against Basel tonight.
