Ally McCoist was delighted to see Rangers book their passage into the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup with Sunday's 3-0 defeat of Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

And it's a tournament that holds mixed memories for the Rangers manager during his playing days with the club.

Willie from Newlands asks: Can you tell me how many times Ally McCoist has played in a Scottish Cup Final, and how many goals has he scored in those finals?

Ally has played in four Scottish Cup Finals and has scored twice. In May, 1989, his Rangers team lost 1-0 to Celtic with Joe Miller scoring.

Three years later, in 1992, he was in the winning team, beating Airdrie 2-1. He and Mark Hateley were the Rangers scorers.

In 1994, he lost 1-0 to Dundee United, with Craig Brewster grabbing the winner.

In his last Scottish Cup Final, Rangers lost 2-1 to Hearts in May, 1998, and Ally scored Rangers' goal.

PAT SMITH (Royston): Could you confirm that when Celtic beat Dunfermline to win the Scottish Cup in 1965, this was their first trophy under Jock Stein? Also that their goalkeeper in that game was Ronnie Simpson?

Jock Stein took over as Celtic manager a few weeks before the 1964/65 Scottish Cup Final win over Dunfermline. This was their first trophy success since winning the Scottish League Cup in 1957/58. The Celtic goalkeeper in the 3-2 win over the Pars was John Fallon, although Simpson had signed for Celts from Hibernian earlier that season.

BIG JIM (Cathkin): Can you give details of a League Cup match at Celtic Park when Celtic defeated Hamilton Accies 10-0? I have a feeling the ten goals were scored by just two players.

This was a Scottish League Cup quarter-final first-leg match on September 11, 1968. Celtic did, indeed, beat Accies 10-0, and the goals were shared by Steve Chalmers and Bobby Lennox, who scored five each

The Accies goalkeeper was Billy Lamont, and they restored some semblance of honour in the second leg, losing just 4-2. Celtic beat Hibernian 6-2 in the final.

john fletcher (Govan): Could you tell me how far Rangers progressed in Europe in Graeme Souness's first season in charge at Ibrox. A friend says they were knocked out in the first round, while I think they reached the quarter-finals.

Your answer is closer than your friend's. Rangers were knocked out at the third round stage of the Uefa Cup (the round of 16).

They beat Tampere of Finland and Boavista of Portugal before falling to Borussia Munchengladbach of West Germany in season 1986-87.
