Plans for a McDonald’s in East Kilbride which would create over 100 jobs have been submitted to the council

A planning application to develop the drive-thru fast food restaurant at Lindsayfield Road in East Kilbride has been made.

It would be developed at the corner of the existing Morrisons foodstore car park which is adjacent to the supermarket’s access roundabout.

The new plans would bring a multi-million-pound investment to the town and the restaurant is expected to employ more than 120 full- and part-time staff, which McDonald’s will recruit from the local area.

A comment from the planning supporting statement says: “In summary, the proposal represents sustainable development of a prominent brownfield site, which will provide a range of local jobs to the area. McDonald’s design team have taken into account the site-specific design background of the surrounding area and provided a comprehensive justification of the development and how it complies with key policies.”

If developed, there will be 35 car parking spaces created for customers of the restaurant as well as a play frame for local kids.

A previous application was made and withdrawn after discussions with the Roads Authority and a new application has been resubmitted with an analysis and mitigation provided.

A drop-in consultation event took place on March 29 which had a good attendance and a consultation website was set up. Over 80 people attended the consultation day and 135 comments were received via the website.

A large percentage of the comments received related to highways and this has been fully reviewed and addressed within discussions with South Lanarkshire Roads and changes have been made. As well as this, additional pedestrian links were requested and these form part of the amended drawing.

Other comments related to the impact on amenities and litter, which have been further reviewed and an extra acoustic fence has been introduced adjacent to the customer order displays.

And there were also a number of positive comments from people who welcomed the proposal and the positive impact on the area.

The application was received by the council on July 4 and validated on July 19, and the deadline for determining the application is September 18.
