Five vehicles were damaged as debris fell on traffic on a motorway towards Glasgow.

As the Glasgow Times reported earlier, the M74 motorway was fully closed as emergency bridge repairs were carried out.

Now, Police Scotland has confirmed that they were called after debris fell on passing cars near junction 12, Lesmahagow.

The road remains closed and a diversion is in place.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.10pm to a report of debris on the M74 near Junction 10.

“Five vehicles were damaged due to the debris however there are no reported injuries.

“Recovery has taken place.

“The road is currently closed with a diversion is in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
