A Glasgow cafe owner has revealed that a former Rangers manager once stepped behind the counter to make coffee when they had no baristas.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was a regular customer at Eusebi Deli in the West End while he managed the Light Blues - and one day he kindly helped when there was nobody available to make his morning coffee.

Speaking to Crofty and Grado on their Rate the Plate podcast, owner Giovanna explained: "There was a morning that he did come - he loves his coffee, absolutely loves his coffee - and I think there was a marathon on in the city and my baristas couldn't get in.

"So he'd be at the door every morning at 8am and Alice, who's in the deli upstairs, said 'Giovanni there's no barista, I don't know how to make a coffee'.

"He says, 'Alice, out the way, I'll make the coffee' and he went behind the counter and started making the coffee!"

Giovanna added that the staff 'really miss' the Dutchman, who coached Rangers from 2021 until 2022 when Michael Beale took over.

She said: "Gio's just lovely, he's just a gent, he was here at all different times of the day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we really miss him."
