A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked in South Lanarkshire.

The 36-year-old was found seriously injured by police officers at a property in Albert Terrace, Hamilton, after being assaulted at around 9.45am on Monday.

He was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment and medical staff say his condition is serious.

Detective Inspector Kenny Dalrymple, of Wishaw Police Office, said: "Our inquiries are at an early stage into the circumstances surrounding this incident, however, at this stage we believe that the 36-year-old man was the intended victim.

"Officers are carrying out inquiries in the local area and are gathering CCTV footage to find out more information on this attack.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Albert Terrace around 9.45am on Monday morning who witnessed this incident, or who has any information that will help our ongoing investigation."
