Smith pleaded guilty under provocation at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Rice’s severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The court heard the Smith and his friend had attended Rangers’ 2-0 win over Porto before going to the casino.

Rice and his brother had also attended at Ibrox Stadium separately.

The four men encountered each other at a gaming machine where there was a “heated exchange.”

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “What was observed was Mr Rice headbutting the man with Smith.

“A scuffle followed and Smith with a glass bottle struck Mr Rice on the head before it descended into chaos.”

Smith fled the scene to Southern General Hospital for treatment to a bleeding hand which required five stitches.

Rice was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary meantime where he received eight stitches on a head wound close to his ear.
