MORE than 92 new homes could be developed in Govan as part of the Water Row expansion.

Glasgow City Council is expected to grant the off-market disposal of £306,000 for the vacant land near Govan pier on the river’s southern bank to the local housing association later this week.

The transaction between both parties is expected to be complete by December 31 this year.

It comes as the land which is owned by the local authority was formally declared surplus to the council’s operational requirements in September 2018.

It is one of 23 sites that the city administration committee agreed to dispose of to registered social landlords. The decision was made in June last year.

Since then the site has been identified as a key area for regeneration with the proposed Partick to Govan bridge aiming to join the two areas together.

Land at Govan Cross Shopping Centre, Water Row and Govan Road will be developed in three phases.

A steering group of officers from Development and Regeneration Services (DRS), Central Govan Action Plan (CGAP), City Property and the Purchaser was formed in the summer of 2017 and commissioned collective architecture to undertake a masterplan over the site.

The Govan masterplan has informed the proposals for new affordable housing to be delivered phase one, primarily to the east of Water Row.

Proposals for a mixed-use scheme of 92 residential units for mid-market rent and 840 square metres (9,042 square feet) of ground floor commercial accommodation on the site has been outlined in the overall plan.

A report submitted ahead of the contracts and property committee this week states: “The subject shall be used solely for accommodating a residential development of 92 units and 840 square metres of commercial accommodation and for no other use whatsoever without the prior written consent from the seller, which shall be granted at their absolute discretion.”

The plans will be discussed at Thursday’s meeting.
