An opening date has been announced for the new Aldi supermarket in Parkhead.

Customers will be able to shop at the East End community store from 8am on Thursday, 3 December.

The new store, situated at the Forge Retail Park, will also create 17 new job opportunities within the area.

Customers will be able to chose from over 450 Scottish products from over 90 suppliers across the country, all selected for their exceptional taste, value and provenance.

Those visiting the store will be able to safely pick up all the essentials needs as safety measures including sanitisation stations on entry, Perspex screens at its tills and social distancing reminders will all be in place, as well as a traffic light system to control the number of people going in and out of the store.

Aldi Store Manager Thomas Gallagher said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the new store here in Parkhead. It’s set to be a great day and it’ll be lovely to welcome our new customers into the store and provide them with access to affordable, high quality food.”

Additionally, the new Aldi store is calling on local charities and food banks in Parkhead to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, up to five days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.
