Primark has revealed why they won't be opening their Argyle Street store for over 24 hours this Friday.

Glasgow shoppers visiting the city centre branch won't be able to enjoy 36 hours of bargain hunting this weekend unlike Renfrewshire customers visiting the retailer's intuBraehead shop.

The shopping giant's move comes after the Scottish Government announced coronavirus lockdown restrictions will be eased from tier four to tier three in Glasgow and Renfrewshire - which will allow all retail shops to open at 6am tomorrow.

A source from the fast-fashion retailer revealed bosses were only selecting the busiest branches across the UK to open for over 24 hours - which is why the Argyle Street store will only be trading until at least 10pm this weekend.

A spokeswoman said: “Employee and customer safety are Primark's highest priority. We are reopening all our stores in Scotland with extended opening hours, to cater for the anticipated higher customer demand ahead of the festive season and to help safely reduce queues by spreading shopping hours over a longer period of time.

"In line with this, we will be trading overnight in one of our Glasgow stores, Primark Braehead, on December 11 and other stores, such as Primark Argyle will open until 10pm on weekdays until December 23.”
