AN EMPTY shop in Nitshill could be turned into a new takeaway if planning permission is granted.

The unit at 345 Nitshill Road has been lying empty for three years after the former Post Office moved premises.

A planning application has been submitted to use the vacant property as a hot food takeaway shop.

Objections have been raised with concerns that there are already too many in the area.

Within a 165 yard distance, there are seven takeaways - three Indian takeaways, three Chinese takeaways, and one fish and chip shop.

But, several letters of support have also been put forward.

It is not yet known which type of takeaway the store would be, but the opening hours would be 11am to 11pm Monday to Thursday, 11am-12am on Friday and Saturdays and 11am-10pm on Sundays.

One objection to the application read: “There are already too many hot food takeaways. Being an owner of one of these, this will make trading even harder than it already is.

"Also, parking is already scarce and will be even worse.”

One person, who welcomed the new business, said: "This shop has been empty for at least a couple of years and it’s about time someone can make use of it for a small business serving the community and employing local people.”

If the plans are approved, the shop would consist of a small office, a storage cupboard, a kitchen and customer waiting area.
