A WOMAN abandoned her starving dog in a home filled with urine and faeces with no food.
Catherine Louise Thomson, 28, was handed a three-year ban on owning animals after she was found to have left her Staffordshire bull terrier in her former home in Slenavon Avenue, Rutherglen.

When Harvey was rescued from the disgusting den, he weighed just 10kg and his ribs, spine and hip bones were seen protruding through his skin.

Vets said he would not have survived the next 48 hours had he not been saved by SSPCA rescuers and said it was the worst case of emaciation they had seen in 13 years.
Scottish SPCA inspector Stacey Erwin said, “In April 2019, we received a report from a member of the public who became concerned for a dog, we later found to be Harvey, within Thomson’s address.

“Despite attempts to contact Thomson and gain entry to the property we were unable to do so. On the second visit I looked through the letterbox and saw Harvey shakily make his way to the door."
Thomson had vacated her home, leaving Harvey behind to die. She pleaded guilty to the charge of causing unnecessary suffering to the dog at Glasgow Sheriff Court on December 2, 2020.
Luckily, he has now made a strong recovery and has found a "loving forever home".
Ms Erwin added: "Despite this happy ending, Harvey would have been caused to suffer considerably in becoming this thin and living in the awful conditions at Thomson’s property.

“While we are pleased Thomson received the ban, we are disappointed Thomson was admonished of the initial charge. Thomson demonstrated that she was unable to provide Harvey with even the most basic of care and showed a complete disregard for his welfare by moving out of her property and leaving him behind.
“We hope Thomson will carefully consider her ability to look after any animal in the future.
