A GANG raided an ATM at an off-licence in a raid which is thought to be linked to a similar robbery in a nearby town just a day before. 

Thieves broke into a Day Today shop in Main Street, Calderbank at 2am today. They caused extensive damage to the shop and tried unsuccessfully to loot the store's ATM.

We told previously how looters targeted another Day Today shop in Woodland Crescent on Thursday. 

Police are investigating both incidents and are treating them as being linked. Both saw a blue Audi estate car fleeing the scene afterwards. This morning, three men got into the motor and made off along the M8, in the direction of Chapelhall. 

One of the men is described as being of stocky build and wearing a dark hooded top with white patches on the shoulders, dark jogging bottoms with white stripes on the sides, dark trainers and a dark face mask.

The second is of average build and wearing a dark hooded top with a light coloured emblem on the left of the chest. He was also wearing dark jogging bottoms with a light emblem on the left thigh, trainers and gloves.

The third man was of average build, wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark-coloured jogging bottoms and dark trainers.

Detective Sergeant Mark Nelson of Coatbridge Police Station said: "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

"We would urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity around the shop or the wider area overnight to get in touch.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the blue Audi car or knows of its whereabouts.

"An investigation is also ongoing into a similar break-in at a shop on Woodland Crescent in Cambuslang on Thursday, April 22 and we are treating these incidents as linked.
