AS filming for the fifth Indiana Jones takes place in Glasgow city centre, a new ITV crime thriller starring Outlander star Lauren Lyle is also now being shot nearby.

Camera crews were spotted outside The Duke’s Umbrella on Argyle Street today as the recently opened gastropub hosts filming for the new ITV series Karen Pirie, an adaptation of Val McDermid’s The Distant Echo.

This new drama series from the award-winning producers of Line of Duty and Bodyguard is centred around DS Karen Pirie - a young and fearless Scottish investigator with a quick mouth and tenacious desire for the truth. 

Craig Mckay, general manager of The Duke's Umbrella's, said: “Glasgow’s proving popular for filming locations, though we haven’t had Harrison Ford in yet, you never know, he might just make an appearance."

Scottish author McDermid has sold more than 16 million copies of her novels and who has worked previously with TV productions to take her books to screen.

The Distant Echo was published in 2003 and is book one in the Karen Pirie series and ITV has ordered three, two-hour drama episodes of the adaptation set in the Scottish university town of St. Andrew’s.

Craig added: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the production team and stars to the restaurant, with that is our first time hosting a drama production and we hope the cast and crew have time for a bite to eat and a cocktail after filming ends.”

The Duke’s Umbrella is also hosting a Bookface Book Swap Brunch on Saturday 7thAugust, featuring a special Q+A with award winning crime writer Lisa Gray.
