A LUCKY shopper has carried out a supermarket sweep in Aldi - and managed to raise money for a foodbank in the process.

Richard Sloan grabbed over £450 worth of goodies for himself in the Shettleston store while also raising £917.62 for East Renfrewshire Larder.

He was chosen as the winner of an in-store competition which allowed him to take part in the five-minute trolley dash for charity on Monday, July 19.

As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Richard successfully found the three Scottish products on his shopping list so Aldi doubled the total value of his haul and donated the lump sum to his nominated foodbank.

He said: “This was such a fantastic experience, and I enjoyed every moment of it. I know that foodbanks are struggling at the moment, so at a time when they are more important than ever, I am grateful to have the chance to give something back to them. I’d like to thank the team at Aldi for running the event and also the team at Shettleston who were really helpful on the night.”

Jennifer Lawrie and Rachel Egglestone, Co-Founders of East Renfrewshire Larder, added: “We are thrilled that Richard chose East Renfrewshire Larder as the recipient of his trolley dash win and also the generosity of Aldi in doubling his win. We will be able to help so many families in need.”
