Do you think your local butcher or baker makes a world-class pie?

It's time to put that to the test as the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards are set to return early next year.

Applications are now open to registered food businesses who think they have what it takes to fight it out for the prestigious title.

Scotch pies aren't the only bakes that will be put to the test by master judges with a massive 11 categories to be won including best Football pie, Bridie or Vegetarian savoury.

Alasdair Smith, Chief executive of Scottish Bakers said: “After more than a year of a global pandemic, I am so proud to be launching The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards once again.

“This really is the only competition of its kind recognising excellence in the preparation of a perfect pie and it is now a regular fixture on the calendar as professional butchers and bakers throughout the country vie for pie supremacy and the boost to their business that always comes with such a sought after title."

Glasgow Times:

Following a judging session on 10 November, the rightful winners will be crowned at a glitzy ceremony at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld in January next year.

Adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings is none other than popular TV personality Carol Smillie who will be presenting the awards. She said: “I am so delighted to be back on board with the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, the world may have changed, but our love of pies most definitely has not!

"It’s such a fun day celebrating the skills of so many butchers and bakers who kept the nation’s spirits up with our best-loved dish.”

Bakers, it's time to get your eyes on the pies.
