A CAR was set on fire in a deliberate attack in the early hours of this morning.

At around 2.30am, police were called to a report of a car set alight in Maple Quadrant, Airdrie.

When emergency services attended, it was revealed that there had also been attempts to break in to four vehicles in the same street.

Police are appealing for information following the wilful fire-raising and attempted car thefts.

Detective Sergeant Lorraine Wilson, Coatbridge CID, said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I am appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“If you were in the area of Maple Quadrant in the early hours of Sunday morning, and saw anyone acting suspiciously, please get in touch.

“I would also urge any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0519 of Sunday, October 3.
