A SUSPECT will stand trial in May accused of attacking his partner to the danger of her life.

James Blakely, 27, allegedly assaulted the woman at a property in Glasgow's Knightswood on July 5 this year.

Prosecutors state Blakely punched her on the head and repeatedly struck her on the head and body "by means unknown."

Court papers state Blakely seized and pulled her by the hair, dragged her along the floor and threw her on to a bed.

It is claimed he then seized her by the neck and throat and compressed it - restricting her breathing.

The charge further alleges Blakely uttered threats to kill her whilst in possession of a bottle.

The offence is said to have been to her injury and danger of life.

It is also alleged to have been aggravated by involving abuse of a partner or ex-partner.

No lawyer appeared for Blakely yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court due to ongoing industrial action.

Prosecutor Sarah Latta said: "The Crown is prepared for trial and it's estimated to last one day but two days is the best estimate."

Sheriff John McCormick replied: "To put down a one-day jury trial would be ambitious."
