East Dunbartonshire residents are being urged to prepare in advance for changes to bin collection services over the festive period.

For residents who receive a collection on a Saturday (Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) or Sunday (Boxing Day and January 2), refuse and recycling collections will be running two days later on the Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Waste teams will be working until 9pm on these days with delays expected.

Residents are asked to ensure that they leave their bins on the pavement until collection has taken place.

Regular services and collection days will resume on Wednesday, January 5 with the council advising that bins and food caddies should be left on the kerbside the night before in case collections are earlier than usual.

Joint Council Leader Andrew Polson, said: “Over the Christmas period, most of us are out of our normal routine and it can be easy to forget about things like bin collections, especially if they fall on a different day.

“I’d encourage all households who will be affected by these temporary changes to be well organised – make sure you have put the right stuff in the right bin and also have your bin out for collection the night before your revised collection day as this will allow our crews to get through the collections as quickly as possible.

“In addition to the kerbside collections, I would encourage people to make use of our recycling sites throughout the area for the extra waste that can be generated at this time of year.”
