A CITY toy bank is on its way to help tens of thousands of children once more as it partners with the Glasgow Times Bank on Us appeal.

Spirit Aid, which was founded by Scottish actor David Hayman, has been working tirelessly throughout the run-up to Christmas to ensure no child goes without on the big day.

The group, which has joined as partners for the second time, has already been supported by hundreds of members of the public through its cash donation page, Amazon wishlist and handy drop-off points.

However, it has also attracted the attention of celebrities, such as Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, who have praised the work of staff.

She said: “You know that it’s going to make children who are having such a wretched time have a happier time. Be generous, dig deep in your pockets because money is only money and it makes such a difference to them.

“So, for the Spirit Aid Christmas appeal give, give, give.”

Organiser Patrick Rolink has been travelling across the city to help spread festive cheer and ensure everything is in order ahead of December 25.

Last year, the group managed to help Santa Claus deliver almost 100,000 presents and it’s hoping to do an even bigger job this festive period.

The group said last month: “This year we are seeing unprecedented demand for help for this coming festive season and we are still in mid-November.

“We need your help. We can’t do it without your generosity and kindness.

“If you are in a position to be able to make a donation to our appeal, no matter the amount, it will make a difference where it is needed.”

As previously reported, kind-hearted readers can donate newly bought toys to Spirit Aid’s headquarters at 50 West Campbell Street until Wednesday to ensure they are delivered in time for our most vulnerable young people to enjoy on Christmas Day.

The site is open from 10am to 4pm and staff can help arrange a delivery for those who might find it difficult to get out of the house.

Alternatively, the group is accepting cash donations and has also set up an Amazon wishlist to help make it easier for people to participate.
