Remember when Halloween used to pretty much last one day?

I mean, there were always the odd parties a day or two out, especially when Halloween didn’t fall on a weekend night, but in the main, it was October 31 – guising, trick or treating, up the road.

Now? It lasts longer than Liz Truss as Prime Minister!

(That’s my last joke about wee Liz, I promise, I’ll try my best).

But seriously, did Halloween 2022 not last about a fortnight, or is that just me being grumpy?! Don’t answer that …

I should say though that it was brilliant to see all the youngsters out and about, dressed up, enjoying themselves – apart fae those in Dundee! Oooft.

It was a proper first Halloween for many off the back of the last couple of years so quite right they milked it. Mon the young team.

Me? I dressed up as a taxi fit for Glasgow’s impending Low Emission Zone!

Niche joke maybe, but it is a helluva lot cheaper than paying for the real thing. Yep, the LEZ era is drawing ever nearer and if one thing spooked me on October 31 it was the message from HQ:

Please remember that Glasgow City Council wrote to all licence holders to instruct that if you are applying for grant funding, for either exhaust retrofit or LPG conversion to reach LEZ compliance, you may be granted a time-limited extension beyond the June 1 deadline

BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE SUBMITTED YOUR APPLICATION FOR FUNDING BEFORE OCTOBER 31, 2022.

This is to allow for supply problems beyond your control.

If that doesn’t make sense to the average Glasgow Times reader I’m not surprised – but you’ll be reading a whole lot more about it between now and June 2023. Watch this space.

The city’s taxi trade will soon change and become like one never seen before but that’s for another day. Until then, it’s business as usual and with the clocks fallen back, it really does feel like we are on that dark and wintry road to Christmas time.

Might even try my luck and write early to Santa asking for a time-limited extension! Lol.

Anyway, a couple of days rest for the partygoers this week and on to Guy Fawkes Night, Saturday night, I get the impression it’s going to be a lively one. That’s one annual event I really do wish only lasts a day, who needs to be hearing a rocket for 44 days in a row after all … ? Stay safe!
