THE headteacher of a primary school in Glasgow has paid tribute to her "lovely, kind" colleague following her shock death earlier this week.

We previously reported 35-year-old Marelle Sturrock was found dead inside a property on Jura Street on the morning of Tuesday, April 25 after police were made aware of concern for a woman.

Officers have since confirmed her death is being treated as "suspicious".

Yesterday, a letter was sent to parents at Sandwood Primary School, where Ms Sturrock worked for more than six years, informing them of her death.

Now, headteacher Fiona Donnelley has paid tribute to Ms Sturrock and her dedication to the children and school, calling her a "much-loved member of our school community".

She said Ms Sturrock had been a "key player" in the success of the school choirs and said she had used her "artistic talents" across the school.

In a statement, she said: "Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school.

"We will all miss her so much.

"She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.

"Marelle used her artistic talents across the school and was our music champion who has been a key player in the success of our school choirs; with one of her classes going to see her on stage at The King’s in one of her many acting roles outside of school.

"We are a school community in mourning and are devasted by the tragic news of her death and pass on our deepest condolences to her family and friends as we all come to terms with our loss."

Ms Sturrock was from Wick, in the Highlands, but moved to Glasgow when she was 17 to pursue a career in the performing arts.

She later became a primary school teacher after completing her post-graduate diploma in education

Police have said an ongoing search for a missing man in Mugdock Country Park is linked to her death.

A heavy police presence will remain at both Jura Street and Mugdock Park while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly added: "A visible police presence will remain at both locations as our work continues.

"There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but I would urge anyone with information or concerns to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25 or speak to any of our officers."
