It was a move that highlighted their unwavering gratitude for staff at the health board, recognising the vital role they play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the public.

The owners at The Dhabba restaurant, Peet Basi and Nav Basi, shared their appreciation for the staff at the GRI.

Peet said: “We made and delivered a total of 198 meals for the staff at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary as part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations.

“The staff are already under pressure and we felt it was important to give back to those who dedicate their time to care for others.

"As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the NHS, we wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude and admiration for the remarkable work undertaken by these individuals every day.

“We all need to recognise the work that our nurses, doctors and staff play in keeping us healthy and if everyone does a little, it goes a long way.

“By providing some free hospitality, we hope we have played our part in offering some respite for these fantastic members of staff.”

Glasgow Times:

The team at Dhabba have previously shown their gratitude to NHS staff during the Covid pandemic when they provided regular meals to the hospital.

Peet added: “We contacted the hospital during Covid and wanted to organise a food drop for staff members.

“We made a simple vegetarian dish and dropped these twice a week throughout stages of the pandemic.

“It was fundamentally going towards a great cause and it was good to be a small part of a solution and to show a gesture of appreciation.”

Patricia Myers, associate chief nurse at the GRI, said: “We are humbled and extremely grateful for the support and generosity that Dhabba have provided for our nightshift staff at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary last week."
