Deliveroo demanded Councillors signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement when visiting kitchen premises over a bid to deliver alcohol.

Members of the city’s Licensing Board carried out a site visit to the Deliveroo Editions 'dark kitchens' site in Scotland Street in the Tradeston area of the city.

The firm had applied for an off-sales licence to be allowed to deliver alcohol with food.

But before they were allowed access to the site, the councillors had to sign an NDA.

At the board hearing to discuss the application councillors expressed their anger and told the firm they needed to scrap their policy.

Dan Hutchison, Green councillor: “It is wildly unacceptable that we were required to fill out a non-disclosure document. We need to be able to talk about what we see.”

Bill Butler, Labour councillor, said: “I am urging the company to review its NDAs.

"It is absolute nonsense. I hope that, with the speed of many antelopes, this is reversed.”

Robin Morton, solicitor acting for the Deliveroo site operators, said: “People only have to sign after entering the dispatch area.”

Morton said: “The introduction of the NDAs was to prevent operatives, or visiting suppliers, from copying and ripping off menus and procedures.

“It looks like it needs to be re-examined to exclude regulators.”

Councillors said their feeling over the NDA would have no bearing on their consideration of the application and  the licence was eventually granted.
