A restaurant in Renfrewshire has won a major honour at the Scottish Hospitality Awards.

De' Buddha, which is situated on Collier Street in Johnstone, won Best Dining Experience at the annual prize-giving ceremony.

The menu features a diverse array of traditional Nepali dishes along with multi-cuisine options.

Rabi Maharjan, who opened the business back in 2023, explained the significance of the award.

He said: "I’m very proud of this achievement because this simply represents all my hard work, my efforts, my passion and my love towards this place.

"My team has been amazing and is very professional with a great mindset.

"This is the first year we have been able to enter, so to win the award is amazing."

The business also clinched the top prize at The Scottish Sustainable Curry Awards, receiving the accolade of Best Restaurant of the Year.

Rabi, who is originally from Kathmandu, in Nepal, was a teenager when he first arrived in Scotland.

He opened up about his journey in the hospitality business.

Rabi continued: "I worked in restaurants and cafes part-time and slowly started getting passionate about food and drinks.

"I always wanted to open my own restaurant one day and finally I did, when I opened my first restaurant in Gourock and ran it for seven good years with lots of success.

"It was called My Kitchen Multi-Cuisine Restaurant and it won more than 10 awards over seven years."

Rabi also revealed his future ambitions for the business.

He added: "My next plan is by end of July, I’ll apply for a Rosette within the AA Restaurant Guide.

"Without the support and love from the local community nothing is possible and we are very lucky to have such loving and supporting customers."
