The “mind-numbing stupidity of racists” has been condemned after “abhorrent” graffiti was scrawled on the side of a row of shops in the North-East of the city.
Cllrs Ruairi Kelly and Sharon Greer have both spoken out after vandals sprayed a wall on the side of a chippy in Mossvale Crescent in Craigend with a vile Islamophobic message.
The graffiti, littered with spelling mistakes, appeared after huge disorder broke out in the city centre during which Police Scotland said members of the public were "attacked because of the colour of their skin".
Cllr Kelly said: “This exemplifies the mind-numbing stupidity of racists, who are thankfully a tiny minority of our communities.
“This type of intimidation will not be tolerated and all of us in positions of influence have a duty to ensure that all of our constituents feel safe and welcomed rather than stirring up fear and division.”

Cllr Greer, meanwhile, described the behaviour as “appalling and not welcomed by the residents of Craigend".
“Seeing racist graffiti within our community is deeply disappointing and unacceptable,” she added.
“Abhorrent, offensive vandalism such as this does not reflect the values that so many work hard to build and maintain within the area.
“I have been advised that the graffiti has promptly been removed.”
Indeed it is understood that Glasgow City Council's graffiti team took action to remove the graffiti today.

Craigend Licensed Grocers, whose premises are next door to the chippy, described the vandalism as “absolutely unacceptable”.
They said: “Graffiti like this has no place in our community. Writing offensive, racist, or hateful messages on public property is disrespectful to local residents, businesses, and everyone who uses the area.
“We should be building a community based on respect, not spreading division and hatred. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour.
“We urge those responsible to think about the impact of their actions and encourage anyone with information to report it so it can be dealt with appropriately.
“Let’s stand together against racism, hate, and vandalism.”

Leading anti-racism educational charity, Show Racism the Red Card in Scotland, has also moved to condemn the graffiti "unequivocally".

Campaign manager Billy Singh said that while the person responsible has managed to misspell a five-letter word, there is unfortunately no misunderstanding the hateful intent behind the message.
"Racism, in any form, has no place in our communities," he added.
"Graffiti such as this is designed to intimidate, divide and make people feel unwelcome because of their faith, ethnicity or background.
"The overwhelming majority of people in Glasgow reject these attitudes and values.
"We stand in solidarity with those affected.
"Incidents like this are a reminder of why education remains so important in challenging prejudice and promoting respect, inclusion and understanding.
"Show Racism the Red Card will continue to work with schools, communities and football clubs across Scotland to challenge racism wherever it appears."
