UK scaffolding firm goes into administration after 62 years

Blencowe Scaffolding Ltd is based in three main locations – Salisbury, Basingstoke, and Eastleigh.

However, its three bases mean it operates across the south of the UK in the following areas:

• Wiltshire
• Hampshire
• Dorset
• Somerset
• Gloucestershire
• Oxfordshire
• Berkshire
• Surrey
• West Sussex
• East Sussex

What happens when a company goes into administration?

It says on its website: "We operate within a 60 miles [sic] radius from each of our depots in Salisbury, Basingstoke and Eastleigh."

The company, which has been in operation for the last 62 years, created its "specialist scaffold division" in 2014 and its customers are from across the UK and sometimes even from overseas.

With more than 100 staff, the family-run business's workforce is at risk following the appointment of administrators this week (August 12).

Julie Anne Palmer and Andrew Hook, both of BTG Begbies Traynor, have been appointed administrators, The Gazette reports.

Newsquest has approached Blencowe Scaffolding Ltd for comment.

The scaffolding firm is not the only company in the construction industry to be appointed administrators this year.

Agile Property and Homes, based in Oxfordshire with offices also in Bristol, which specialises in affordable housing "while minimising environmental impacts", was appointed administrators on July 6, The Gazette reports.

UK high street shops that no longer exist

The company builds homes using natural and renewable materials such as timber and straw.

The company says on its website: "We use Zero Waste manufacturing processes, all the materials used in our homes can be re-used and recycled.

"We will reduce waste during construction on site to a minimum, in operation and over the lifetime of every project."

Other companies that have gone into administration in 2026 so far

A variety of companies, including high street chains, travel firms, and restaurants, have gone into administration or liquidation so far this year.

The company responsible for iconic British bike maker Raleigh, Accell Group, has also collapsed into administration, putting the 139-year-old British bike maker at risk of closing.

Whitbread recently confirmed it will be closing all its UK restaurants in September:

• Brewers Fayre (89 locations) - September 7
• Beefeater (106) - September 10
• Bar + Block - September 3
• Table Table - September 3
• Cookhouse + Pub - September 3

Major high street brands LK Bennett, Claire's, and Quiz have been forced to close all their remaining stores after falling into administration.

UK fashion retailer Leading Labels is also set to close its remaining 15 stores after falling into liquidation.
