Glasgow should prepare for some incredibly high temperatures today as a heatwave continues across the country.

An amber weather warning is currently in place for the Strathclyde region, including South Lanarkshire.

In a UK first, The Met Office has issued a red 'extreme heat warning' for some parts of England that are predicted to hit close to 40 degrees.

 

Glasgow won't quite reach the same level of heat with highs of 28 degrees expected.

However, the sun will shine throughout the day with people urged to ensure they stay safe as temperatures soar.

Keith Brown, the Scottish Government’s minister for resilience, said: “When temperatures increase, it’s important to monitor forecasts and follow public health advice, including staying hydrated and drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding excess alcohol.

“I would also urge people to look out for vulnerable family, friends and neighbours, as older people, those with underlying conditions and those living alone may struggle to keep cool and hydrated."
