MARTIN Compston's Scottish Fling will begin airing next month, the BBC has announced. 

In the new series, which will begin on BBC Scotland on September 8, the Line of Duty star embarks on an unforgettable trip around Scotland with co-host and friend Phil MacHugh to experience what makes the nation tick.

The pair's onscreen travels begin in Martin's hometown of Greenock but over the course of the six-part series, they will also explore the Western Isles, the Highlands and the East Coast, as well as several other parts of Scotland.

In the first episode, Martin and Phil will travel up the West Coast through villages and towns to discover the different ways people experience the great Scottish outdoors. 

Martin said: "Having spent the last few years travelling for work this is me getting reacquainted with my homeland and joining me is my lifelong pal the mighty Phil MacHugh.

"I’ve felt like I’m falling in love with Scotland all over again.

"It’s the place but it’s the people – that’s what makes it so special."

Martin Compston's Scottish Fling will begin on BBC Scotland at 10pm on Thursday, September 8.

It will also be shown on BBC Two, starting Friday, September 9 at 9.30pm.
