More than 30 people from North Glasgow participated in a guided walk at the Claypits to raise awareness of mental and physical health.

Organised by Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, who have recently opened a new Maryhill hub, the event took place last week.

Participants enjoyed a stroll at the nature reserve, discussing the history of the space and the future plans for it, after refreshments including tea and biscuits.

Three levels of walks were available, catering to all mobility and fitness levels and each guided by a Paths For All accredited walk leader.

Doalty Sweeney, from North Glasgow, said: “On the day, it was a great turnout, well organised and even the weather was in our favour. Lovely meeting new people and making nice conversations on our way around the Claypits. There was great input and conversation all-round the walk.

"Claypits Nature Reserve was like an oasis in the city. A wonderful, calming, relaxed area at Hamiltonhill. It has a tremendous history behind it, and Bob was a minefield of information.

"The views across Glasgow from the viewpoint were amazing, seeing Goatfell on Arran, 40 miles away, was a fantastic site.

"The value of the event, especially in the lovely weather, is immeasurable. Learning about the different species and animals that thrive there was brilliant.

"It brought such calmness and peace, just walking in nature and getting knowledge from Bob, and socialising outdoors is a real bonus.

"The fact it’s in the inner city is even more beneficial to people when they find out about it. It’s right on numerous bus routes. I feel it can become a real go to place for all Glaswegians.

"I had a fantastic day and look forward to any future events.”
