A woman has paid tribute to a Good Samaritan who helped her after she got caught up in a traffic accident.

Denise Stronach was on her way to the Women's Library last Friday, when her bus journey was interrupted by a collision.

It is understood that as she was on her way, around 9.30am, two cars were involved in a crash on East Kilbride Road. The two drivers, a man and a woman, were both taken to hospital.

The 57-year-old was shaken up after the bus jerked to a halt and decided to get off.

She said: "I ended up going away, walking up over the hills, and I was all sore but I was trying to make my way to the library because I had people waiting on me.

"I reached this electric gate and a man came out and said 'are you okay, hen? We heard that, we wondered what happened'.

"He brought me into his house to make sure I was alright [and] brought me a cup of tea."

After settling down, Ms Stronach asked the host, who introduced himself as Brian Haughney, to call her a taxi, but he insisted on driving her to the library where she volunteers.

Upon arrival, the kind stranger also made a generous donation to the Landressy Street institution, for which they are very thankful.

Feeling very moved and grateful, Ms Stronach added: "He is such a lovely person, a pure gentleman, a treasure of a man."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a crash involving two cars on East Kilbride Road, around 9.30am on Friday, September 23, 2022.

“Emergency services attended and the male driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment. The female driver of the other vehicle was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
