A Glasgow woman has decorated her home for Halloween in the most spooktacular way.

Catherine Waddell, from Maryhill, adores the spooky season and decided to dress up her house to spread joy in the community.

The 39-year-old has been putting up decorations for several years but only decided to take it to a new level two years ago.

She said: “Just purely because it has been a hard three years for everybody, I thought doing this would give the kids something to look at, look forward to and enjoy.

“I decided that the bigger the better, so I just kept adding to it for the past two years, making it even bigger.

“I have bought stuff, I have been given stuff by family, it has been a joint effort."

Losing count of how much money she spent on it, the spooky house is a unique sight in North Glasgow.

The mother-of-five is proud to be known for putting the most effort into her Halloween decorations and enjoys the attention it gets.

She said: "I actually love it when people come to have a look at it. I’m a people person, so I am right out there, talking to everybody and telling them how I have done this or that.

“For example, I have an actual TV hanging up in my bathroom window and that is purely because my wee boy smashed his TV and I thought instead of binning it, I could make it a prop.

“I took all the components out, I made a hole in the screen and I put a zombie girl there, coming out of it, recreating the scene from The Ring.

“In the last few days, there must have been about 25 to 30 cars coming up and to the garden, letting their kids press all the buttons on the animated decorations and taking pictures.

“It has been really good and it’s not even Halloween yet, so I am really looking forward to the holiday."

Born and raised in the area, the grandmother-of-two created the spooky display entirely for the locals.

She said: “It’s just for the community. It’s good for the children, they love coming to see what is new and I absolutely love it as well.

“I just love seeing the kids happy and this is going to make them smile so I would be happy to do it all day long.

“I have actually been in talks with my housing officer, who is going to come out and try to create a community event, where I would be helping out and doing the decorating for a Halloween party.

“I have that much stuff, I would be able to kit out a hall for the celebrations and also for Christmas.

“We won’t be able to do it for this year, but next year, we are definitely doing a community get-together, a Halloween bash."

Catherine is hosting a family party for the October holiday but is looking forward to families visiting her display.

She said: "I also love trick-or-treaters. Last year, I made around 165 party bags and had 165 drinks and bags or crisps to give out.

“I also had a massive urn, filled with hot water, so when the adults were coming in with the kids, I was making them hot chocolate with marshmallows.

“I am just trying to get everyone involved and keep them warm because it gets quite cold."

Following the spooky season, there will be a Christmas display at the house as well.
