Glasgow Reds, a Liverpool football supporters club, raised £600 for the Glasgow North foodbank last week.

The club held a Christmas jumpers’ night on Sunday, December 11, at the Record Factory in the West End of the city.

Glasgow Times:

At the event, members of the supporter’s club wore a festive jumper and donated some money in turn to the Glasgow charity.

The team even made £178 of the £600 on the day, thanks to some "generous" participants.

The donation was officially made on Wednesday, December 14.

Lee Foley, member of the Glasgow Reds and suggester of the event, told Glasgow Times: "The night was great.

"To be able to help a local food bank, especially at this particular time of the year is always a little more important, especially with cost-of-living and the other impacts the festive season has.

"It means even more to us to do this for local people, as well."

Lee added that the club are known for doing a lot of fundraising over the years, which has included raising money for Baby Loss Retreat and other local charities.

He said: "It’s one of the main reasons why we do what we do. We always ensure that we help, it means something to us we’re helping and getting involved."

Glasgow Times:

As part of the fundraising event, the club gave away an all-expenses paid trip to Anfield for the best jumper.

One of the attendees won the prize for his Poundland jumper.

Lee said the only negative part of the day was the football result which ended in a defeat for Liverpool against Lyon.

As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, The Glasgow Evening Times has also partnered with dozens of food banks across Glasgow and beyond, as part of our Bank on Us campaign.

As part of the campaign, paper bags were placed into every copy of the Glasgow Times on Wednesday, November 30 for readers to fill with non-perishabe food items and toiletries.

The Glasgow Times will also be raising funds for our Bank on Us toy drive, so that every child in Glasgow can open a present on December 25.
