A GLASGOW woman has celebrated 25 years of working for a vital charity.

Colleagues at Family Mediation West (FMW) surprised Carol Carbry with a party to mark her special anniversary.

The 63-year-old has been with the charity, based in Charing Cross, for a quarter of a century and said it flew by.

She said: "Working for FMW for 25 years has been my pleasure. It doesn’t feel like it has been this long because I enjoy what I do.

“We work with vulnerable families and children who don’t get to see their mum or dad, depending on who they stay with, so we set up contact with them.

“We have helped hundreds of kids who come in, spend time with their parents and then move on, outwith the contact centre.

“It’s like a stepping stone and I have enjoyed every single minute of it."

Running the contact centre both at the Glasgow and Kilmarnock locations of the organisation, the mother-of-two and grandmother-of-three takes pride in her work and the difference it makes.

She added: “I have quite a few favourite memories and the ones that get me are when the children come in here and don’t want to see their mum or dad and then, later, outwith the centre, there they go.

“There are loads of memories of the kids, their little faces, when they come through the door and how happy they are.

“And they say ‘oh, I just love going out with my dad or my mum now’.

“My plans are to stay here and do the job that I have been doing, hopefully for another 25 years."

According to her, a key to a great workplace is the atmosphere.

The Croftfoot resident said: “It is a pleasure working here.

“It has its moments, like any other job, but I have a great support network around me.

“We have a fantastic team and we work together. When someone is struggling with something, we all help out.

“That support is there for everybody, we are not alone."

The notable anniversary comes at the end of Family Mediation Week, which raises awareness of the benefits of the practice.

Moira Monro, 75, who works at Family Mediation West, said: "The idea is that where there is conflict between parents about arrangements, they can come to mediation on a voluntary basis, which is a safe place with a mediator, to help them come to an understanding."
