A blaze broke out at the NWH Waste Collection site in the city's East End today. 

The Glasgow Times has been reporting on the incident throughout the day after the incident broke out at 2.35am.

What has happened on Nuneaton Street

A fire has broken out at the NWH Waste Collection site in the East End of the city.

The blaze broke out at 2.35am this morning after 999 crews received reports of a suspected bin on fire.

Upon arriving, emergency services found a commercial building to be completely on fire.

Heavy smoke was spotted around the area as a result of the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.35am on Wednesday, February 8 to reports of a bin fire at Nuneaton Street, Glasgow.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised one appliance to the scene and on arrival firefighters found a commercial building well alight.

“A further five appliances and specialist resources were mobilised. Crews remain on the scene as they work to make the area safe. No casualties have been reported.”

How bad is the damage to the Nuneaton Street property?

Drone footage has emerged of the fire, which shows extensive damage to the NWH building.

The footage and pictures by Newsquest photographers highlight severe blackening of the building as a result of the fire, as well as severe damage to the roof, sides and front of the building.

Mass amounts of smoke were seen pouring from the building, with landmarks such as Celtic Park and the Emirates Arena unable to be seen by our on-site reporter.

Which Glasgow roads are closed?

 

Several roads have been closed as a result of the blaze. 

Drivers have been advised that the Clyde Gateway is now closed between the Gallowgate and Dalmarnock Road junctions.

Nuneaton Street has also been shut to traffic as police are assisting firefighters.

London Road remains closed between Springfield Road and Fielden Street.

Is the incident in Nuneaton Street ongoing?

 

Fire crews are currently still on the scene and are working to extinguish the fire. 

In the latest statement, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.35am on Wednesday, 8 February to reports of a fire within the grounds of a recycling centre in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised six appliances and specialist resources to the city's Nuneaton Street.

"Five appliances currently remain on scene with crews working to extinguish the fire.

"There are no reported casualties.”

SFRS City of Glasgow tweeted that due to the level of smoke, they would advise those who live in the area to keep all windows and doors closed while this incident is ongoing.
