It cited energy prices combined with prices of produce and paying rent as the reason it was struggling to 'survive'.

In a statement shared on social media, it wrote: "Sorry guys! We have tried our best!

"With the cost of energy, goods etc and trying to survive with the costs of our landlord's levy we simply cannot survive.

"We love you and thank you but must bid you farewell!"

Monterey Jack's specialises in burgers, fried chicken, waffles and a range of desserts and has sites across the country.

These are still operating at Glasgow Fort, XSite Braehead, Hamilton, East Kilbride, Falkirk, Perth, Dunfermline and Stirling.

The closure of its city centre chain comes after we reported that Route 32, a takeaway in the East End, said an emotional farewell to customers after its final day of trading.
