Locals have been left 'gutted' after a pub in East Kilbride announced its shock closure.

The Westwood Bar, Functions Suites, and Garden - which is located on Redcliffe Drive in the town - revealed it would be shutting down with 'immediate effect' on Tuesday, May 21.

Taking to social media to share the news, the watering hole thanked all their customers from over the years, while saying the decision was taken with 'sincere regret'.

Announcing the news, the bar said: "It's with the most sincere regret that I would like to inform you all that with immediate effect the Westwood Bar has closed its doors.

"I would like to thank every one of our patrons for their continued support and friendships over the years.

"It's a very sad day.

"Anyone that had bookings for functions will be contacted in due course.

"Once again, thank you for your support over the years."

Following the devastating news, locals have taken to social media to express their sadness of the pubs closure.

One said: "Gutted doesn't cut it."

A second added: "Absolutely gutted. 

"The whole pub has been my extended family for the last 14 years or so. 

"It has been one of, if not, the best community pubs for years."

Meanwhile, another said: "End of an era. Hope someone buys it - great staff, great punters."
