It takes something quite extraordinary to unite fans of both Celtic and Rangers.

However, the Glasgow rivals appear to have found some common ground during the Betfred Cup final - after voicing their fury at a ‘whistling idiot’ in the Hampden stands.

Fans on both sides created a cauldron of noise throughout the clash at the national stadium.

But those watching at home found themselves particularly frustrated by one fan who seemed to be whistling directly into the BT Sport microphone.

Dozens of supporters took to social media to vent their anger at the unidentified fan, with some even joking the culprit deserved a banning order.

It is not clear which end the supporter was sitting in, but it appeared both sides of the Glasgow divide were equally irritated by the incessant noise.

One wrote: “Surely no supporter in Hampden can stand that whistler? Whoever it is needs a stray pie to the face…”

Another added: “WTF is that whistling at Hampden. Feel like I'm watching sheepdog trials.”One fan even went as far as to report the fan’s behaviour to Police Scotland.

He wrote: “@PoliceScotland Think you guys might need to look in to a mugging at Hampden Park, Glasgow. Gonna wrassle oot the boy who keeps whistling too?”
