Barry Ferguson believes there is no logical way of playing out the Scottish football season.

SPFL chiefs called a halt to all matches from the Premiership down to League Two due to the on-going Coronavirus outbreak. And Ferguson reckons the only viable option is for league bosses to call time on the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, the ex-Ibrox skipper said: "It's going to cause so many problems and that is why I can't see the season finishing. Whatever they come up with there's going to be people who are going to be happy and people who are going to be unhappy.

"They are going to have to come up with a decision - but I wouldn't like to be on that board. They need to come up with a decision quickly.”

Ferguson also believes Scottish teams will struggle financially with no fans coming through the turnstiles. The 42-year-old, who is currently boss at Lowland League side Kelty Hearts, has also revealed how the league stoppage is affecting his own side.

He added: "I think you are going to find a lot of clubs with serious financial problems. Clubs rely on the fans coming through the turnstiles and the part time clubs rely on simple things like the hospitality.

“Even people going up and getting a juice and a pie at the snack bar. Certainly, at the club I’m at one of the biggest incomes is the social club and people obviously buying snacks.”
