Sir Tom died rose to fame last year, when he raised almost £33 million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden. Sir Tom contracted Covid-19 last week and had been omitted to Bedford Hospital.

And speaking on TalkSport this morning, Rangers legend McCoist led a touching tribute to Sir Tom.

“He was everything that was great about Great Britain,” McCoist said.

“He brought every age, race & religion together in this country.

“I can’t remember anything from anybody that has grabbed the imagination and the love of the public.”

“The money he achieved is one thing, that in itself is a remarkable achievement, fantastic.

“I just thought what he did in terms of bringing people together was exceptional and wonderfully, wonderfully special.

“His life will be getting told in schools up and down the country, not just this morning, but for a long, long time.

“Of course, absolutely there is a massive degree of sadness and we all offer our sympathies to his family. But if ever there has been an opportunity or a reason to celebrate a life, it’s this gentleman.”
