Speaking to Rangers TV, the veteran forward opened up on the change of environment at the club that has led to Rangers’ imperious form this season.

Rangers are unbeaten so far this season, and just 12 games away from recording an invincible season.

And he emphasised that there is such a level of motivation in amongst the squad that some players are coming to the training centre on their day off.

“We had a meeting and I mentioned that I could sense a different sort of focus around the group,” Defoe admitted.

“I watch the players around the training ground and especially the young players. The gym is packed, every day and on days off the payers come in.

“Sometimes on a day off you’ll get 10 players in the gym, it’s nice to see.”

“If you get that at a football club it’s a massive sign.”
