McCoist is perfectly placed to know just how difficult the top job is in Govan, having managed Rangers through some of their darkest days in the lower leagues. And he has never hidden his admiration for the man now in control.

Glasgow Times:

McCoist believes the way that Gerrard goes about his business makes him the perfect fit for Rangers – and is a big reason behind his success in charge of the club this season.

“The way he handles himself, his players, his press conferences – he just looks and sounds like a Rangers manager should,” McCoist admitted in comments made to the Guardian.

“I just think he’s got it. He picks things up very, very quickly.”

Gerrard looks set to lead Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title this season. His side are undefeated all season and could wrap up the league title next month.

And if Rangers do go onto win the title, McCoist admits no one will be happier than him.

“There will be nobody, I can guarantee – Steven, Gary McAllister, Alfredo Morelos, James Tavernier, the entire board – happier than me if we win this league," he added.
