RANGERS legend Brian Laudrup thinks an Ibrox loan move for Billy Gilmour could be a win-win for both parties.

Gilmour was highly thought of by former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard - but is reportedly open to the idea of a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in search of more regular football.

That possibility was in place before Lampard was fired and is more likely with Thomas Tuchel now in charge at the London club.

Gilmour did make the squad for Chelsea's match with Sheffield United at the weekend, but chances have been few and far between under German boss Tuchel.

And Laudrup believes a return to the team Gilmour left at the age of just 16 could be the correct move, with the deep-playmaking role Gilmour operates in best currently held by 36-year-old Steven Davis.

Laudrup told the Daily Mail: "I read that he would have been interested in a loan before the window closed to improve his chances of making Steve Clarke's squad.

"The fact Chelsea kept him is a show of faith on their part, but if he doesn't play much this season, then a temporary move might be best for all parties in the summer.

"Would a return to Rangers, the club he left at 16, be suitable then?

"It's all hypothetical, of course, but it's a thought that intrigues me for the future.

Glasgow Times:

"Look at the Rangers midfield just now. Steven Davis does that deep-lying playmaker role extremely well, but he will be another year older next season and won't be able to play every week.

"I think we saw again at Hamilton how much he can be missed when he's not in the side.

"From Gilmour's point of view, there could be Champions League group stage football on offer. That would be another incentive for his development.
