US superstar Akon has said he has the time of his life when he comes to Glasgow.

The Senegalese-American rapper and singer, who was nominated for a Grammy for his 2006 album Konvicted, first rose to fame in 2004 following the release of his debut single Locked Up and has since worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Gwen Stefani to name a few.

Alongside working with music industry giants, playing to a Glasgow crowd is also special to the Lonely hitmaker.

He explained: “The last time I was in Glasgow we had such an amazing time.

“The fans over there are just crazy, I love Glasgow fans – I can definitely say we had the time of our lives there, one thousand per cent.

“My band members are even more excited than I am to be coming back over to the city. We had an absolute ball last time.”

When asked about his favourite past experiences and memories in the city, the superstar jokingly replied: "I'm going to go ahead and keep them to myself."

But it's not just the Scottish crowds that the star loves - it is our musicians too.

Akon admitted: "I love Calvin Harris. Cal is the truth man, I love him. He’s amazing.”

Akon will be making his way to the O2 Academy in the city’s Southside on April 29 as part of the star’s Superfan tour, which will also take him to the likes of London and Manchester.

It will be Akon’s first tour in the UK and Europe in over 10 years.

He said: “I’m so excited about coming back on tour because it’s certainly been a minute.

“I can’t wait to reconnect with my fans as these are the guys who have kept me around through all the time that I’ve been gone.

“On this tour, I’ll be doing songs that the average fan might not even know, but the superfans actually do. My setlist is filled with all the songs I love to perform, and then of course there are songs that I couldn’t go without performing.

“I think we are doing close to 40 songs on the setlist.”

Fans can expect tunes like Locked Up and Smack That.
