A STRING of 'deliberate' fire-raising attacks have been launched on vehicles across Hamilton.

Cars and property have been damaged in incidents on Reid Street and Sneddon Terrace in the South Lanarkshire town. Police warn there are several similarities regarding each fire.

A car on fire was reported at Sneddon Terrace at around 10.35am this morning. Another car was set alight on Reid Street at around 7.25am yesterday.

The first incident took place on Reid Street just after 8pm on Wednesday November 10, 2021 when a parked car was set on fire and destroyed.

Another car was then set on fire on Reid Street at around 9am on Thursday, December 23, 2021.

Detective Inspector Gordon Sneddon said: “We were keeping an open mind about links between each of the incidents, though there are similarities about each of the fires.

“We would urge anyone who may have information about the incidents, or who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage to get in touch.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a small, silver hatchback style car in the area over the past few weeks.

“Officers will also be carrying out regular patrols of the area to provide reassurance and anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to speak directly to an officer.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting 0705 of December 23, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
