RESIDENTS in Glasgow's East End are set to receive compensation after they were left without heating and hot water earlier this month.

Tenants in Dalmarnock's Commonwealth Village received letters saying they would receive a £20 credit to their utility bills or key metres after they were left without heating for two days due to a product failure.

We previously reported that residents heating and hot water was out of action for nearly two days on Friday, January 18.

The letter, from Vital Energi said: "The energy centres, heating and hot water supplies are operated by Vital Energi on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

"Vital Energi and Glasgow City Council have agreed a compensation payment to be administered to all the connected properties.

"The compensation payment of twenty pounds will be credited to prepayment meter and credit billing accounts automatically. This will be visible on either your pre-payment meters in home display or as a credit payment on your next bill which will reflect on your account balance."

Glasgow City Council confirmed the plans today. A spokesperson said: "The £20 service level credit is correct, as set out in the Heat Supply Agreement entered into between the council and each Athletes’ Village resident.  This is based on £10 for the initial four hours disruption plus five times £2 for every subsequent period of six hours disruption.

"For customers using a Pay-As-You-Go meter, this credit will be added onto their meter and direct debit customers will see this credit on their next statement.  Vital Energi are processing the customer credits."
