A much-loved vegan cafe in the city centre has been forced to increase its prices in order 'to survive' the cost of living crisis.

The Glasvegan in St Enoch's Square took to social media to inform their loyal customers of the decision.

In a heartfelt message, they said that they had to make the change in order to keep up with the cost of living, supplier cost increases and pay their staff properly.

A member of the team said: "It may not come as a surprise to you all that we will be increasing our prices in the near future.

"This is so that we can keep up with the current cost of living, rising costs from our suppliers and continue to pay our wonderful staff the living wage."

They added: "We want to be the best cafe we can be, providing the absolute best food and service we can. In order to do this, and to survive as a business, we must increase our prices.

"Thank you so much to all of our incredible customers for your continued support. We wouldn’t be here without you guys! We are so grateful for your constant love.

"Thank you times a million, The Glasvegan Team."

A customer offered their support for the move, saying: "Fully support this. You gotta do what you gotta do."

Many businesses in the hospitality business are feeling the pinch in recent weeks.

Cafe Partenope in Shawlands has resorted to opening seven days a week to make up for spending more, while the head chef at Bloc+ is concerned about how bars and restaurants will recover from the crisis especially after the pandemic.
