A major store has been granted permission to reopen after a lengthy closure.

Poundland on Dalmarnock Road has announced the return of store at the popular location.

Previously, we reported that the company applied for planning permission with Glasgow City Council.

Now, they have confirmed the return of the retailer, likely to be in the spring.

The unit will be smaller that the one that was closed over a year ago.

A Poundland spokesperson said: "We were really disappointed when we left our Dumbarton Road home when the lease expired but now pleased that just over a year later, we’ve managed to re-negotiate our return.

"It will be a smaller store than before, but Dumbarton Road shoppers will get the very best of our amazing value in a brand new store.

"The store will follow our ‘local’ format with a range of items tailored to suit the needs of customers, whether they live or work locally - we’ve got lots to do kitting out the store and haven’t quite firmed up an opening date but it looks like it will be towards the end of March/Start of April."

After the closure of the first Poundland, the location was taken over by young businessman Jordan Trainer, who used it to host a monthly pop-up market.
